Ubuntu 7.10 released !!

Finally, the new Ubuntu distribution is on the wild. I'm eagering to arrive home and upgrade my acer to this new release, codenamed Gutsy Gibbon.

I hope it can solve the battery detection problems that I had with the last kernel version. I'll keep you posted on how I'm going with this exciting release !!

Hey man!!

I was eager to try it too but... I was very disappointed...

An interminable boot time, no splash screen (check the release notes - it's a known issue).

Compiz works very bad...

No sound like it already happened with Edgy...

I think this isn't the best ubuntu edition for us owners of ACERs 5051...

Have you made any improvements on your installation?

Regards

Hey mate.

I have the exact same model of machine as you do. I just can't get my wireless (Atheros ER5007NG) to run in uBuntu, tried both with ndiswrapper and with madwifi (different drivers / patches). How did you do the trick?
If you could send me an email, gurrap(alfakrull)home(punkten)se

Hi,

I have an Acer 5051 AWXMi. I have been trying several linux distributions but I am noticing the following lines upon boot

PCI: Cannot allocate resource region 7 of bridge 0000:00:04.0
PCI: Cannot allocate resource region 8 of bridge 0000:00:04.0
PCI: Cannot allocate resource region 7 of bridge 0000:00:05.0
PCI: Cannot allocate resource region 8 of bridge 0000:00:05.0
PCI: Cannot allocate resource region 7 of bridge 0000:00:06.0
PCI: Cannot allocate resource region 8 of bridge 0000:00:06.0
PCI: Cannot allocate resource region 7 of bridge 0000:00:07.0
PCI: Cannot allocate resource region 8 of bridge 0000:00:07.0

It seems that Pheonix bios creates a problem. In my case(and I suppose fro all who have my laptop), the VGA EN line is affected. I cannot use linux with X server when using battery due to this.

Is there a work around?
